Wooden Old Style Bottle Case
Mark W. Rummel posted this photo on May 3, 2012 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”. He said “There’s a wooden Sebewaing “Old Style” Beer crate for sale today on eBay, starting at $49.99 (no bids yet.) It’s from the late 1930s-early 40s and held the only type of beer made then, 12 oz. long neck returnable bottles (all beer bottles were returnable then.)
I remember picking up empty beer bottles along M-25 where we lived, south of Sebewaing (between where Moore Motors and Luke’s is now) — and getting 2c per beer bottle, and a nickel for pop bottles.”
Here are the comments from the post:
Vince Haag I still have some sebewiang beer cases and hundreds of labels, caps, and keg seals that went over the old cork plugs etc.
Don Pobanz Mark you come up with some amazing things, keep it up. I for one love it. I won’t go back to Sebewaing again ,but I love it. It’s always home
Thank you to Mark W. Rummel for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.
