Sebewaing Beer in the Yellow Can
Mark W. Rummel posted this photo on April 2, 2012 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”. Mark wrote “I always called this the “C B WING” beer can. It’s from (I’d say) the 1950s, before Sebewaing Beer went to the blue can used until the end in about 1966. I thought it was clever, telling people phonetically how to spell our town’s name… “C B WING” If you’d like to own one of these, this one is for sale today on eBay for $9.99…”
Here are the comments from the post:
Patricia Holland Full or empty?
Mark W Rummel Oh, Patty, they’re ALWAYS empty (hehe)… Actually, I’ve got two full long neck bottles myself (real 1965-66 beer, not the re-done stuff). Personally, I wouldn’t drink it, but it’s fun to look at…
Alice Pommerenke Mark – I still tell people c b wing when they question me about pronounciation
Kimberly Butterfield but if you want to know how to spell it, that’s another story!
Fred Sharpsteen You can tell if they are real as the took a hack saw and cut a blade notch on the day it was bottled. if the label has no notch in one of the corners the width of a hack saw blade it is not real. They would take a stack of labels and place then in a vice then notch the stack then place them on the bottles.
Thank you to Mark W. Rummel for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.
