Beer Case End Display

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on November 17, 2014 by Scott ThedeNovember 18, 2014

Beer Case End DisplayMark W. Rummel posted this photo on November 20, 2013 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said “Want to buy part of an old CBWing Beer case? This is for sale on eBay today, as someone has made a nice wall hanging from some labels, caps and the end of a beer case. It could be yours…”

Here are the comments from the post:

Mike Seibel I think a lot of these beer cases were used to store albums back when people still bought albums.

Mark W Rummel Yep, Mike. And I still have two with drum sticks and stuff from our oldies band days. (Wish I had taken better care of them.)

John Schneider bet those sticks are hickory and are either 16 or 16-1/2″ long….0.551 or 0.580″ dia…… just resting nicely in that beer box……well, that’s how i picture it mark

Mark W Rummel Yep, John, you’re right! Hickory and 16s…

Angela Neuman Moloney Back in the day these were our camping suitcases! Mine was covered in pink stickers. Kinda wish I still had it!

Scott M. Thede I remember going to our grandparents cabin in Curran and the back of the Suburban would be packed tight with case after case filled with clothes, food, and anything else needed for the excursion. All of the kids were allowed one case for clothes. Orange POM and yellow Club boxes were plentiful as I was growing up for storing all kinds of items.

Thank you to Mark W. Rummel for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.

The Early Can

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on November 17, 2014 by Scott ThedeNovember 17, 2014

Yellow Can2Karen Wasserman posted this photo on November 10, 2013 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  She said “Found a neat little surprise when we remodeled our bathroom this past year. These were in the wall.”

Here are the comments from the post:

Thera Heck Harder Great condition and find

Judy Terrill Clarence just y me that you had to have a church key to open these. No pop tops and no twists

Judy Terrill just reminded me

Lori Fisher So the cans are full?

Karen Wasserman No these are empty

Vince Haag Nice!

William Harder Nice

Mark W Rummel At one time (while the Brewery was still open, so maybe it was 1960 or so) they were removing a bathroom wall at The Blade Office (now Jackie’s Upholstery) and there were maybe 50 tan cans in the wall. Apparently some printers would slip into the bathroom with a can, drink it, and drop it in between the studs in the wall. We threw them out, but wish we would have kept them now!

Mark W Rummel @Judy T, when they finally got around to having a pop top on the blue cans, about 1963, they were called “Zip and Sip” and it was another expensive addition for our little brewery. Soon after, short-neck non-return bottles were also added, with screw-off caps.

William Harder If they have no rust on them they go for eighty dollars a piece, blue ones with no rust go for one hundred and fifty dollars

Thank you to Karen Wasserman for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.

Cancelled Payroll Check from the Michigan Brewery

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on November 17, 2014 by Scott ThedeNovember 17, 2014

Otto Thede Payroll CheckScott M. Thede posted this photo on October 22, 2013 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said “I have several checks from the brewery with my grandfather, grandmother and father. Here is one of those checks.”

The Michigan Brewery was formerly the Sebewaing Brewery from 1933-1964.  It closed the first time in the spring of 1965.  It reopened under the more popular name of Sebewaing Brewing Company in June 1965.  It would not last and again closed for good in June 1966.

Here are the comments from the post:
