Circus Came to Town, Lions Stayed, No Lyin . . . . !!!
Scott M. Thede posted these photos on March 18, 2014 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”. He said:
“Did someone say a circus was coming to town with exotic animals? Back on July 3, 1939, a circus did! Here are the advertisements in the Sebewaing Blade from June 16, 1939 and June 23, 1939. This is the source of the first three lion cubs the Sebewaing Brewery acquired which eventually grew to a pride of seven. A new story about the lions and the brewery can be viewed at this link. https://sebewaingbrewingcompany.com/the-pride-and-burden-of…/ ”

Lynn Jahr Very interesting story, Scott. I never knew all of that. Was Otto Thede your grandfather?
Steve Genow I had no idea about this. Great story.
Mark W Rummel That’s a great story, Scott, and you did a super job telling it. Who knew that’s where the famous lions came from? I always imagine back to a time such as this – probably your grandparents and my grandparents and so many others attended that show, and it was likely in the village park we still use. Memories for sure.
Bob Fournier Some more good history.
Scott M. Thede Lynn Jahr Yes, Otto is my grandfather, Florence my grandmother, my father is William, and my uncle is John (Jack).
