Otto H. Thede Union Book on eBay

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on February 4, 2015 by Scott ThedeFebruary 25, 2015

Front Cover of Union BookMark W. Rummel posted this photo on December 13, 2014 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said:

“For sale today on eBay — the Sebewaing Brewing Company Brewery Workers’ Union Book from 1936 for Otto Thede. Several more photos are found on the for sale page there.

A seller in Bay City is offering this book, which belonged to the man who worked there so long and even became the Brewmaster. Some of his grandkids and other relatives are members here. It’s priced at a pretty expensive $99 right now — let’s see what it sells for.

It could be yours, if you want to bid on it.”

Here are the comments from the post:

Jim Bratton Mark, do you know who is selling all this Sebewaing stuff, for sometime now? Or, is it different people? Just curious.

Mark W Rummel Jim, it’s usually all different people. I know one person bought many items at the Otto Thede estate sale… this is probably that seller.

William Harder Rick Schmidt from bay city he handle Otto thedes estate sale

William Harder He has a store next to jakes bar in bay city

William Harder Jim Bratton do you have any beer stuff

Jim Bratton No, William.

Scott M. Thede I made an offer and the seller accepted. It is good to have this back in the family. I’m not sure why it was discarded. Here is the whole book. https://sebewaingbrewingcompany.com/…/01/Union-Book.pdf

Mark W Rummel Congratulations, Scott – very cool !

Scott M. Thede Thank you Mark.

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on February 4, 2015 by Scott ThedeFebruary 4, 2015

LighterWilliam Harder posted this photo on November 15, 2014 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said “Has anyone seen these before?”

Here are the comments from the post:

William Harder Won off eBay says it’s from Otto Thede estate

Dale Pobanz I remember the lighter my Mom had one

Jim N Connie Bunke I saw these on ebay, too. Glad you got them!

Scott M. Thede Yes I remember my mom, Karen Thede working with the estate sales team in 1983-84 putting these packages together. I believe all of the grandchildren received a set. I still have mine and I am looking at it right now!

William Harder Scott where these gift to employees there or public

Debra Eden I have a lighter

Scott M. Thede William, my guess it both, but probably more public for potential marketing.

Thank you to William Harder for this post and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.

Familiar Photo of Brewery

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on February 4, 2015 by Scott ThedeFebruary 4, 2015

Front of brewery circa 1975Mark W. Rummel posted this photo on April 16, 2013 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said:

“Duane Wurst of Pigeon is a top-quality photographer and artist who shares his love for the Thumb. He recently posted a very familiar looking shot of the front of the ole Sebewaing Brewery.

I’m proud to have an original painting and photo of the Charity Island Lighthouse which Duane painted probably 20 years ago, as a Christmas gift from wife Sally. Check out his work, and enjoy this CBWing memory!”

Here are the comments from the post:

Doug Rook I’ll bet that lighthouse needs a second coat by now.

Gloria Jane Jones I saw that bldg for the biggest part of my life..Lived in Seb. the first time when I was four yrs old..Beautiful painting..thought it was the actual picture…sad when the bricks were going down..

Mary Beers Have that same shot only with a boy walking in front of the building. It is hanging on our wall as we speak. Miss the building.

Chuck Sterling The building I work in now has the same kind of freight elevator… And, I always wondered, as I now do again, what came out of the square metal chute?

Mark W Rummel Good question, Chuck. Was it some malt by-product? I remember farm trucks being parked there, receiving a load of stuff through that chute… Any other ideas??

Shawn W Janke My stepfather (deceased) Ralph Ludwig worked there, and I used to fish the river behind it. I caught more suckers there than anywhere.

Jacklyn Hughes This brings back a lot of memories of riding my bike down to my grandparents house or down to dads barbershop right past the brewery.
it was sad to see it come down.

Scott M. Thede Answering the question from Chuck Sterling “And, I always wondered, as I now do again, what came out of the square metal chute?” The square chute sat below Mash Tub #1 and was the spent grain chute. The other bin with the cover to the right of the painted pheasant was the malt hopper that attached to the malt elevator.
