Even More Bottle Caps

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on November 4, 2014 by Scott ThedeNovember 4, 2014

Bottle Caps3Mark W. Rummel posted this photo on September 8, 2012 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said “Here are four unused bottle cap / cork crowns from three old (original, good recipe) Sebewaing Beer brands, plus P.O.M. — Pride of Michigan — which the “new owners” formulated and which helped close down the Brewery at the end…”

Here are the comments from the post:

Mark W Rummel Forgot to add… these are for sale today on eBay, if you’d like to own a little hometown history…

Janet Fuerst Reithel I bought labels of Golden Pheasant, Club Lager and Sport Beer today from a vendor at Fall Family Days at the Thumb Octagon Barn. They also had for the upper left label but already have some of them.

Susan Kotenko Harman I remember walking home past the brewery as a kid, it was already closed by then.

Thank you to Mark W. Rummel for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.

More Bottle Caps

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on November 4, 2014 by Scott ThedeNovember 4, 2014

Bottle Caps 2Mark W. Rummel posted this photo on May 26, 2012 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said “We’ve seen some of these before, but here are three bottle caps from different brands of Sebewaing Beer — Club, Bock and good old Pheasant — from the 1940s through 1965…

If I remember correctly, the Sebewaing Brewery had a larger capacity than the Geyer Brothers Brewery in Frankenmuth, which stayed in business until about 12 years ago. Imagine if we still had that business in our hometown…”

Here are the comments from the post:

John Schneider i like the one on the right

Mark W Rummel Me too, John… I’ve ALWAYS liked that blue pheasant label and image. It was the best.

Philip C Bachman I think Sebewaing needs a Ford Company Factory

Stacey Bybee Someone just needs to start a micro brewery at the old fire station! Perfect spot along the river. Great old building; lots of history.

Kimberly Butterfield Stacey… you should get your people on that!

Stacey Bybee I have ‘people’?!? Oh, you mean the guys who like to turn my kitchen into a brewery??

Kimberly Butterfield yes…. the very ones…

Thank you to Mark W. Rummel for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.

Pride of Michigan Label

Sebewaing Brewing Company Posted on November 3, 2014 by Scott ThedeNovember 3, 2014

POM LabelMark W. Rummel posted this photo on May 23, 2012 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”.  He said “Here’s the “Pride of Michigan” label, also known as “POM” which was produced from about 1964 until the brewery closed, in 1965.

The “new owners” started this, to upgrade the Sebewaing Beer image. They didn’t even want to use the Sebewaing name, saying it’s the Michigan Brewery, in Huron County, MI… Big mistake, and it helped lead to the end…”

Here is the only comment from the post:

Doug Rook I’ve heard many a Sebewaing hater joke about the beer being called pheasant piss. Then someone started the POM label and claim that it comes from, of all places, “urine” county.

Thank you to Mark W. Rummel for posting the photo and all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.
