Scott M. Thede posted this photo on December 12, 2013 in the Facebook Group “You know you are from Sebewaing, MI when …”. He said “Here is the second of three in a series of Seasons Greetings from the Sebewaing Brewing Company. The first photo is the card as it comes out of the envelope. The second is when you turn the page. The third is when you open it up to a poster size picture with the ending message. The postmark on the envelope is December 1950. These cards were based on “The Gay Philosopher” by artist Henry Major.”
Here are the comments from the post:
Patricia Holland Very cool!
Joan Jahr Thanks for sharing them
Lori Fisher They put some effort into this! No Photoshop back then. Very nice
Scott M. Thede My pleasure. I am glad people are enjoying them especially around the holiday season. A nice trip to the past.
Mark W Rummel Yes, instead of Photoshop, generally people used good artists to create such works. (Note: CBwing’s portrait photographer Bill Hurdelbrink shot all black and white for many years. Any color portraits he sold were hand-painted, usually by his talented wife Muriel.) Son Kim and others can add details, I’m sure.
Ann M Beitz If my memory is correct, my Mom said some of the first color pictures Mr. Hurdelbrink took were at her and my Dad’s wedding in 1963.
Dale Beitz You are correct, sis. Most of their wedding photos were B&W, but a handful were color.
Mark W Rummel …and that was a big deal for a small photo company for sure. Development was only done in the big cities, and it took several weeks to get proof copies, then several MONTHS to receive actual wedding photos. And this has all been in the last 50 years or so, where we now have instant beautiful color photos of much higher quality than even professionals could have shot back then.
Thanks to all of those who took the time to comment in Facebook.
