Website Publicity in 2014

This website has had some recent publicity in the Michigan Thumb area and Huron County. On June 5th, a brewery label was provided from the website to help promote a story about the return of a batch of commemorative Golden Pheasant beer to the 2014 Sebewaing Annual Sugar Festival. The festival was this past weekend on June 13th-15th. The article from the June 5th Huron County View is to the left. Click on this article to see it in a larger format. The Huron Daily Tribune printed an extensive article that describes my reasons for building this website. Seth Stapleton of the Huron Daily Tribune took the time to ask questions and the additional time reviewing the website’s contents. The resulting story was accurate and very well written. The time and effort of Mr. Stapleton is very much appreciated. The article from the Huron Daily Tribune on June 12th (on-line) and to print on the 13th can be accessed here.

Organizations Promoting Beer Consumption

The United States Brewers Foundation and the Michigan Beer Association were promoters of American breweries. These organizations worked with newspapers and media companies to promote the consumption of beer in Michigan and throughout the United States.

The United States Brewers’ Foundation was a trade organization that existed from 1862 to 1986. It promoted an educational video with the help of the Jam Handy Organization owned by Henry Jamison “Jam” Handy. This video is like those educational videos that were watched in elementary schools in the 1950’s through the 1970’s to explain various topics of interest. This video was created in the early 1950’s.

The Michigan Beer Association, now called the Michigan Brewers Guild often put ads in local papers promoting beer from Michigan breweries. The breweries that were members were named at the bottom of these ads like in this example from the Sebewaing Blade on the left. About every month, a new ad would appear in the Sebewaing Blade with a touching or scenic drawing that reminded consumers of traditional family values or the scenic and hunting potential in the State of Michigan.

How Does a Brewery Work?

The Sebewaing Brewing Company used traditional beer brewing techniques mainly brought over from German immigrants that settled in Sebewaing. This diagram on the left shows the process of brewing beer from mashing to bottling.

A more detailed look at brewing can be seen in this video on the right of a German brewery operating in the early 1930’s. The detail in diagrams and related videos is quite advanced for the time and holds up well even in today’s new hi-tech world.
